Keep the Beat Alive!!!

Well our MCD Season is in full swing now! With the successful Shelagh Feile to kick-off the competition season there will be several upcoming competitions to plan for. In addition we have some great performance opportunities coming up. Be Prepared to be Busy Bee's for a while.

So here is an upcoming schedule:

August 15, 2014            Father, Son, and Friends (Lafayette)
August 30, 2014            Global Fest (West Lafayette booth all day and show 1:00pm)
September 13, 2014       Official Indiana Kick-Off (after classes at Puccini's West Lafayette)
September 17, 2014       Halfway to St. Patrick's Day (Peru)
             October 11 & 12, 2014   CRN Regional (Atlanta, GA)
December 6, 20104         Rince Ri Feile (Philadelphia, PA)

Additionally, there will be a change to our Fall/Winter class times in September:
                                                               10:00-10:45am   U8, New Beg’s
                                                               10:45-11:30am   Beg’s and L1
                                                               11:30-12:15pm   Group Ceili
                                                               12:15-  1:15pm    L2 w/ Hard Shoe
                                                                 1:15-  2:00pm    Adults (Over 18)

This class schedule will better accommodate our dancer levels until the reinstating of the Spring/Fall Schedule in May.

Our Kick-Off in September will better explain the class fee updates and the updated information is available upon request.

Our favorite Irish Mammie, Mrs. Brown, has just a few housekeeping reminders for classes:

Arrive to class ready to dance ON TIME that means shoes are on and securely tied, hair is pulled
back BEFORE you walk into the class.
NO Denim of any kind remember that you will be spending time stretching your legs and it is
important that you can move & be modestly covered in all of the right places.
NO PARENTS IN STUDIOS Unless you are dancing in that class; there is NO NEED for you to be in
the studio or peeking around the doors to see your kid practice; that’s what home and
   performances are for.
Water Please have only water in the studio. There is water available via fountain or vending
machine, or you can bring your own.
Snacks should be brought in only if you have permission, or you are here longer than 3 hours.

Pick up after YOURSELF.

Now Mrs. McGoogan would like to clear up some confusion on class times:

WEST LAFAYETTE (Weeknight)
WEST LAFAYETTE
(Saturdays)
WABASH
(Thursdays)
7:00-7:45PM Mixed Levels

10:30-11:00am U8, Beginners, L1
11:00-11:30am Group (All Levels)
11:30-12:00pm Level 2
12:00-12:30pm Hard Shoe
12:00-12:45pm Adults (Over 18)
7:15-7:45pm Mixed Levels
7:45-8:30pm Level 2

I've made some slight changes to the class schedule to better facilitate learning for each individual group. Please remember this is Summer Hours (May-September). Our hours will change slightly in September (they become a little longer).

Tuition guarantees 3 hours of lessons per month. Performances and competitions are included in the 3 hour monthly guarantee. Sessions are separate and are not included in the monthly tuition. If you are taking advantage of a whole day of sessions, that's well over the amount of time you've registered for originally. Please keep this in mind.

Here is the class roll call to better understand the Summer Schedule:

 West Lafayette, Saturday
    10:30am-11:30am (Selah Z., Ella C., Evangeline H., Charlie H., Elijah H., Bridie H., Abigail V.,
                                     Darby Ann B.)
     11:00am-12:30pm (Judi R., Jessica H., Elizabeth D., Kristin H.)
     12:00pm-12:30pm (Extra Session)
     12:00pm-12:45pm (Crystal Z)

Wabash, Thursday
     7:15pm-7:45pm (Allie D.)
     7:45pm-8:30pm (Robin M., Elizabeth D.)

A notice will be posted when the on-line session/class registration is operational. Hopefully this will take care of any confusion going forward, and if you have a question please contact me and we will discuss options.

CLASS CANCELATION POLICY

Performances and Competition are considered a form of practice therefore if you choose not to sign-up for a performance or competition that happens to land at the same time or your regularly scheduled class you will not be eligible for a free make-up class.

Regular participation in class and regular practice outside class is imperative, classes that you miss due to your schedule conflicts i.e. soccer, choir, plays, volleyball, birthday parties, etc. are not eligible for a free make-up class.

Classes that are cancelled due to instructor conflict or inclement weather will be eligible for free make-up classes at a date and time at the instructor’s discretion. If you are unable to participate on the make-up date determined, please email Tamara and together we will come up with a suitable alternative on an individual basis. Please keep in mind that you can utilize class times at other locations to make-up missed classes, but please notify Tamara prior to attending the alternate location/session.

Due to the fact that we are renting the space for our classes it will be difficult to schedule make-up time or classes, but every effort will be made to do so.
Please remember: Lesson fees and registration fees are NON-REFUNDABLE
(this is noted in your registration packet and/or Kick-Off Packet).

Soccer Ball Saturday!

Yes! Soccer Ball Saturday for the Stóirín Class in West Lafayette on May 31, 2014 (10:30am). To continue our quarterly themed class time with these dedicated under 6 group; this especially hard working class (and aka My Favorite Class) has earned the privilege of bringing their soccer balls to class for a fun practice! If you have an extra ball please bring for someone who does not have a ball, Thank You!

Also in the works for the Summer and open to all classes and ages...

Yup! You guessed it. Ice Cream Summer Rewards!

Pick-up your Summer practice sheet at your next May class (don't forget!), and starting on June 1 keep track of your daily practice time. Students under 14 please have your parents fill-in the sheets. This is on the honor system, please. I will know when you are at class if you are practicing the time stated on your sheets. The goal is 100 minutes of practice a week and classes or performances do not count. You can split the time up any way you'd like as long as at the end of the week you have 100 minutes for one week...

Monday through Sunday, 7 little days, 20 measly minutes for 5 days... Come on! You can do it!

At the end of June and again at the end of July turn in your sheets. Anyone who has met the weekly goal for both months will participate in the ICE CREAM SUMMER REWARD on your first class of August.

More happenings:

June - MCD 15th Year Anniversary
July 10 - McGrath Feis Dublin CA
July 25 - 27 - Dayton Celtic Festival  Dayton OH
July 30 - Aug 6  MCD Workshop Tentative
August 9 - Shelagh Feile - Dayton OH

We are so proud that MCDI had 3 students competing this year. All three students did a wonderful job at competition against highly skilled competitors. But I tell you, we held our own and showed poise, style, and confidence that shown through all the way to the awards podium.

If you are interested in meeting new friends that share your passion for Irish Dance, or seeing some top notch dancing technique, or maybe just looking at all the pretty dresses the Shelagh Feile, our school Feile, will be in August and is a great venue to see what competing is about. I’d like everyone interested to begin committing in June so we can begin team practices.
